Abstract: Prevention of electrostatic charges formation on persons or their neighboring elements suppose an assembly of measures and means to ensuring proper paths of dispersion (dissipation) of charges to earth. This can be achieved by using dissipative garments, footwear with adequate electric conductivity and adequate flooring, or by other means of dissipation to earth. One of the textiles widely used for manufacturing clothing elements is 100% cotton. The textile materials made of 100% cotton are adequate from an electrostatic point of view, respectively from the surface resistivity point of view only on condition of a relative humidity higher than 65%. This aspect involves a limited use for the garment elements manufactured with 100% cotton, decided by the relative humidity conditions existing at the respective workplaces. This is the reason why new types of electrostatic dissipative materials had been developed as well as new test methods for these, in order to assess conformity with the specific Ex field requirements, given in the new European standards, and harmonized as Romanian national standards. The new test/assessment methods for the electrostatic properties of garments are based on the half discharge time or the screening factor. Within the LENExEMEIP laboratory a new test method is in its course of implementing for determining of the ESD protective performances of textile materials employed in manufacturing of personal protective clothing used in environments with explosive atmospheres for the purpose of assessment of conformity with the essential safety and health requirements in the PPE European Directive, by measurement of charge dissipation capacity - the test method with induction charging
