Abstract: The need to reduce the weight of structures, has led to the widespread replacement of beams made of classical materials (steel, wood) with beams made of composite materials in various applications. The main objective of the paper consists in the theoretical analysis of the states of stresses and strains developed in two types of beams made of composite materials, obtained by joining two U shapes, subjected to bending. The numerical model and the results are presented for the beam having I-shaped section and for the beam having rectangular section with thin walls. Finally, it is found that the assembly of U-shaped profiles in a beam having I shape cross section, leads to a reduction by 29.36% of the maximum value of the normal stress, compared with the beam having rectangular section with thin walls.
