Rezumat
Protecţia mediului înconjurător împotriva poluării, constituie un domeniu prioritar pentru ţările din Uniunea Europeană, cât de altfel şi pentru ţările din întreaga lume. Strategia comunitară privind mediul înconjurător se bazează pe integrarea politicii de mediu în cadrul politicilor sectoriale ale Uniunii Europene, acordându-se o atenţie specială măsurilor de prevenire a poluării. Una din metodele cele mai folosite o constituie aceea a prevenţiei şi control strict al factorilor care concură la poluarea mediului. Reprezentând o activitate de bază în gospodărirea integrată a apelor, monitoringul calităţii acestora a devenit în prezent un instrument indispensabil evaluărilor spaţio-temporale privitoare la tendinţele de evoluţie a concentraţiilor şi încărcărilor de poluanţi, a celor legate de încadrarea în criterii şi obiective de calitate, amortizarea poluărilor accidentale la nivel local şi regional, cât şi în contextul transfrontalier.

Abstract
Environmental protection against pollution, is a priority for the European Union countries, as well as for countries around the world. Community policy on the environment is based on integration of environmental policy into sectoral policies of the European Union, with special attention to measures for pollution prevention. One of the most used methods is the prevention and strict control that the factors that contribute to environmental pollution. Being a basic activity in integrated water management, quality monitoring has become at present an indispensable tool to space and temporal assessments regarding the evolution tendencies of concentrations and loads of pollutants, those related to compliance with the quality criteria and objectives, depreciation of accidental pollution at local and regional level as well as in cross-border context.
