Rezumat: Articolul propune o vedere integrata asupra problematicii designului structurilor usoare (LWD – Light Weight Design), preocupare fundamentala a industriei aeronautice, care devine din ce in ce mai actuala in multe alte domenii. Realizat in urma unei experiente directe in proiectare si project management pentru mai multe companii mari, acest articol isi propune sa identifice tendinte in proiectarea aerostructurilor, influenta politicilor de usurare structurala asupra industriei auto, respectiv locul cercetarii si al inovatiei in LWD
