Rezumat: Dincolo de efectele benefice asupra sanatatii umane, expunerea prelungita la radiaţiile ultraviolete afecteaza grav sanatatea umana, putand conduce la arsuri solare, imbatrânirea prematura a pielii, alergii si cancer de piele. Imbracamintea, judicios selectata, constituie o prima bariera contra acestor efecte nedorite.

Abstract: Beyond the beneficial effects on human health, prolonged exposure to ultraviolet radiation seriously affect the human health leading to sunburn, premature skin ageing, allergies and skin cancer. The clothing, judiciously selected, is the first barrier to these unwanted effects. In this study, the effect of physical parameters and of dyes on cotton knit is evaluated in order to optimize and select the fabric providing a high ultraviolet protection factor (UPF). Based on the experiments performed, it has been found that excellent protection against UV radiation offers knitted fabrics with a mass of about 200g /m2, thickness of 0.8 - 0.9mm, dyed in intense shades (red, khaki, navy and black).
